I’m a Habitual Rule Breaker. I want you to be one too…

Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist. Pablo Picasso

Anyone that knows me knows that I definitely walk my own line in regards to many things in life. I don’t follow the crowd and “conforming” may happen but it’s usually because of common sense. Outside of that I’m a dreamer and always looking for possibilities to reveal themselves. With many things I have experienced it is usually the follower-type that wants to tell me what won’t work or why something is a bad idea. So then the outlaw in me usually decides to drag those people (sometimes kicking, screaming and complaining) to the finish line just to show them we could do it. Just because it hasn’t been done before or is not “normal practice” doesn’t mean it can’t be done successfully. Learn to do things your way…. even when others doubt you. Learn to put your own spin on things. Rules are great for some people as whole but as an artist and even as a free thinker they can hinder your development just like following someone that is a “follower”….. because it means you are not going anywhere anytime soon. Instead try following a great leader and learn how to become a one yourself.

Learn the rules, then decide what is important and true to you…. whatever is left over in that list is your’s for interpretation. THAT is what most artists will refer to as “your style” and that my friends is what makes your work stand apart from other’s.

Now, no matter what your profession is, get out there and dream a little. It could make all the difference for you.
